School choice portal closes March 22
Time is running out for families to submit choices online for the schools they want children to attend in the 2019-20 school year.
CMSD’s school choice portal -- choosecmsd.org-- will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 22. Log in now to have the best chance of getting your first selection.
Eighth-graders who select CMSD high schools can qualify for new Say Yes to Education scholarships if they live in the District and remain enrolled continuously until graduation. For more information on the scholarships, go to sayyescleveland.org.
CMSD permits students to attend any school if space is available and, in a few cases, they meet admissions requirements.
If the number of applications for a CMSD school exceeds the number of available seats, a lottery will be held to determine admission. Results will be announced on Monday, April 1.
The portal includes links to information about the schools. For more information, call the District’s Enrollment Office at 216.838.5437

The state law that supports The Cleveland Plan, a blueprint for education reform in the city, calls for parents and caregivers to have at least one meaningful face-to-face meeting with their children’s teachers each year. Last school year, nearly 87 percent of parents and caregivers met the requirement.
CMSD offers different types of conferences to make the meetings more interesting and relevant. Among the models are one that uses Academic Parent-Teacher Teams to review student data and another that has the student lead the conference.
Call your child’s school for more information.
Mentors needed to serve Say Yes recipients; WKYC to help
It’s a tall order to fill. And that’s why WKYC, with College Now Greater Cleveland and CMSD, will take part in a one-day “Mentor Monday” recruitment blitz to spread the word and help find volunteers.
On Monday, March 4, TV3 will share information during all of its newscasts about College Now’s innovative e-mentoring program. As part of Mentor Monday, WKYC also will host a reception to recognize employees of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District who were among the first to sign up.
