Nominations sought for teacher awards
5/1/2017 -- The awards recognize teachers who demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity and innovation, make learning engaging, vibrant and relevant and set a standard for excellence. The goal is to inspire teachers and bring attention to exemplary teaching in the District. Approximately 10 winning teachers will each receive $5,000.

Senior wins $40,000 scholarship in Stop the Hate contest
4/28/2017 -- Cleveland Early College High School senior Zephaniah Galloway won first place in the annual Stop the Hate essay contest and will receive $40,000 in college scholarship money. Zephaniah was chosen from a pool of 1,700 juniors and seniors, from both Northeast Ohio high public and private schools, who competed in the annual competition sponsored by the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage.

National commission to study Cleveland's SEL work
4/26/2017 -- A prestigious national panel will visit Cleveland on May 1 and 2 to learn how CMSD is helping students control their emotions, show empathy and make responsible decisions. Cleveland is the first of several cities that the Aspen Institute’s National Commission on Social, Emotional and Academic Development will travel to before issuing a report on how schools can integrate social and emotional learning into their classrooms.

Board honors CMSD volunteers
4/25/2017 -- Before focusing on its agenda Tuesday, the Cleveland Board of Education paid tribute to CMSD's 2,930 volunteers. It was part of National Volunteer Week, but Chief Executive Officer Eric Gordon and the board made it clear that they appreciate the volunteers' efforts all year long.

CMSD honors Browns owner Dee Haslam
4/20/2017 -- The Cleveland Metropolitan School District honored Cleveland Browns owner Dee Haslam on Thursday with an award that recognizes her pioneering support of urban education. Haslam, president of the Cleveland Browns Foundation, was surprised with the “Visionary Award” during the 2017 Chronic Absenteeism Summit, which CMSD hosted at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Browns set to install 2 more CMSD fields
4/7/2017 -- The Cleveland Browns are ready to install two additional synthetic-turf football fields that the team is donating to the District, completing their commitment to provide five new surfaces for CMSD. The team would put in the fields at John Adams High School and John Marshall Campus, according to a proposal that the Board of Education will vote on April 25.
