The Cleveland School of Science and Medicine and the Cleveland School of Architecture and Design, both part of the John Hay Campus, will follow the same schedule but begin the year a week earlier, on Aug. 10.

Most CMSD schools will begin the 2015-16 year on Monday, Aug. 17 under a calendar that the Board of Education approved Tuesday.

The board also approved a 2016-17 calendar. Under that calendar, most students will start classes on Monday, Aug. 15. Most students began the current school year on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The 2015-16 calendar calls for students to start winter break on Monday, Dec. 21 and resume classes on Tuesday, Jan. 5. They will begin spring break on Thursday, March 24, a day that will be set aside for spring parent-teacher conferences, and return on Monday, April 4.

Four year-round high schools -- E³agle Academy, PACT (Problem-based Academy of Critical Thinking), MC²STEM High school and Cleveland High School for Digital Arts -- will begin their school years on Monday, July 27 and follow a pattern of 10 weeks in class, followed by three weeks off. E³agle and PACT will finish the school year on Friday, June 17 and MC²STEM and the digital arts school will wrap up the following Friday.

CMSD offers year-round options as part of The Cleveland Plan, a blueprint for education reform in the city. For other schools, CMSD has moved up the start of classes in recent years to give students more instructional time before they take state tests.
