CMSD Schools re-open Wednesday; Jane Addams Business Careers Center closed Wednesday due to heat problem
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will resume classes at all of its schools this morning, Wednesday, Jan. 8., 2014 -- with the exception of Jane Addams Business Careers Center, which will remain closed another day because a heating problem.
Cleveland schools were closed Monday and Tuesday, the first two scheduled days back from holiday break, because of a historic cold snap in Ohio and throughout much of the Midwest and East. New record low temperatures were set of -11 degrees Monday and -9 Tuesday. All District non-school buildings were also closed on Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the 20s on Wednesday after a cold start. District CEO Eric Gordon made the decision to re-open the school before 5 a.m. today:
"Although it is a cold January day in Cleveland, real temperatures have increased and wind chills have improved to above the NOAA danger zone of -10 or below," Gordon said in an email to staff. "Therefore, CMSD schools will reopen today."
