'Fun and Fitness' program provides Louis Agassiz fifth graders a foundation in Health Living Habits

Mrs. Michelle Hines- Wilson, 5th grade teacher at Louis Agassiz School began an after school fitness program called Fun and Fitness Program for her 5th grade class.

She is a licensed fitness trainer and has gone through a transformation herself and is living proof that health eating and physical fitness works.

This year's six week long program was every Tuesday and Thursday from September 30, 2013 to October 24, 2013, 4:00 p,m. to 4:45 p.m. The focus was to promote healthy lifestyle habits, including healthy eating and physical activity. A pre test administered at the beginning and a post test administered at the end of the program would show the children's growth in knowing healthy eating habits and the importance of fitness.

A culminating activity was held on October 24, 2013 which included student recognition awards with invited parents to share in their success. We had refreshments with fresh fruits and veggies and other healthy treats for all who attended.

We would like to thank Mrs. Willson for her hard work and all of those who supported our efforts, Mr. Bill Stencil and Frank Jackson, Rojeana Howell Curtis, Academic Superintendent and all of the parents and students of the 5th grade class at Louis Agassiz.

This was a most successful program for our families and community.
