Dear CMSD Families and Staff,
Yesterday, CMSD’s Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the CEO’s recommendation to unify all schools under one academic calendar. This change will take effect at the start of the 2025-2026 school year, with all schools beginning classes on August 18, 2025.
There are two exceptions to this unified calendar: the School of One and the Downtown Education Center (DEC), which will continue to follow an extended 205-day calendar. For most schools, daily start and end times will remain the same. However, schools that currently operate on an extended day schedule will see a 30-minute reduction in their school day. A draft SY25-26 calendar and a summary of start and end times are attached for your reference.
We understand that any change can present challenges, but unifying the District under one calendar brings several benefits. It will streamline operations, support family engagement, and ensure a more consistent experience for students and staff across all schools.
CMSD recognizes and celebrates the strong performance of scholars across all school models. We are confident that the unique programming and strengths of extended-year and year-round schools can be preserved and supported within the framework of a traditional calendar and school day.
In the coming weeks, school leaders will meet with staff at each impacted school to provide additional information, answer questions, and support a smooth and successful transition.
